POSITION ONE: The Department of Classics at the University of Arizona is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Assistant Professor (non-tenure eligible). A non-tenure-eligible assistant professor is appointed initially for a one-year period. This appointment may be renewed an indefinite number of times subject to satisfactory annual performance evaluation. Promotion to non-tenure eligible associate professorship is possible after a minimum of three years of service in rank.

The candidate's teaching strengths should focus on imperial Roman historians and imperial Roman culture. Candidate must have received a Ph.D. in Classics by August 1, 2013.

The department has a premier Classics M.A. program, and awards 10-15 masters degrees each year in five distinct emphases: Ancient History, Classical Archaeology, Classical Philology, Latin Pedagogy, and Latin Philology. The anticipated teaching workload is 3 courses per semester. The candidate must be prepared, qualified, and able to teach large and medium enrollment courses in culture and literature, as well as Latin and Greek at all levels, undergraduate to graduate. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the advancement of at least one of the following areas of academic engagement: (1) Global connections in the contemporary world; (2) Digital cultures/humanities; and (3) World literatures, languages, and histories.
