University at Buffalo, State University of New York, seeks a 2008-2009 Post-doctoral Scholar (PS) for its interdisciplinary Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology (IEMA). During a 10 month tenure, the PS teaches one graduate seminar, organizes a symposium, and edits a subsequent volume reflecting IEMA's focus on post-Pleistocene European and Mediterranean anthropological and classical archaeology. Symposium focus is open, but should stress contemporary theory, topics of broad current interest, and be inclusive of the Institute's broader geographic/temporal foci. The PS receives stipend, benefits, plus individual research funds. US and international archaeologists with Ph.D. by August, 2008 in Anthropology, Classics, Archaeology or related disciplines are encouraged to apply; inquiries before submission are encouraged. INSTITUTE FOR JEWISH THOUGHT, HERITAGE AND CULTURE
The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, is establishing an Institute for Jewish Thought, Heritage and Culture, and seeks a major scholar to serve as the founding Director who will guide the Institute's establishment and future development. The University has committed resources for this position and for four additional faculty positions in the Institute over the next several years. The Institute will focus multidisciplinary efforts on the critical role that Judaism has played in the development of Western thinking, addressing issues at the forefront of academic discourse in literature, law, philosophy, government, history, economics, and other areas in the liberal arts and sciences.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the rank of Full or advanced Associate Professor, and must have a past and ongoing record of significant scholarly publication and achievement. The area of specialization for the Director is open, from ancient to contemporary. The initial appointment will be made in an appropriate disciplinary department (e.g. History, Classics, English, Philosophy), until the Institute achieves the intended departmental status with full undergraduate and graduate degree-granting capacities. The Director's academic responsibilities will include a continuing research program and a 1/1 teaching load. The Department of Classics at the University at Buffalo has been authorized to make a tenure-track appointment in ancient Greek history, language, and literature at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 21, 2008. The course load is 2/2. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Greek history, language, and literature from introductory courses to graduate seminars, as well as World Civilizations in the university's General Education program. Candidates must have completed all requirements for the PhD by the start of the appointment.
