Assistant Professor – Roman Archaeology
The Department of Classics at the University at Buffalo (http://www.classics.buffalo.edu/) anticipates the hire of a tenure-track faculty member in Roman Archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 19, 2010. The successful candidate must have an active research program, optimally involving field research. He or she is expected to provide service to the department and University as a whole, and is also expected to participate in the University at Buffalo’s Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology (http://www.iema.buffalo.edu/). Teaching responsibilities will include Roman archaeology and art at the undergraduate and graduate levels, classical civilization, and may encompass Latin language instruction as well. The course load is 2/2. Candidates must have completed all requirements for the PhD by the start of the appointment. The University at Buffalo Department of Classics offers the BA, MA, and PhD, and supports programs across the breadth of classical studies, including ancient Greek and Latin language and literature, ancient history, and classical archaeology. Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology, Post-doctoral Scholar Position 2010-2011

The University at Buffalo, State University of New York, seeks a 2010-2011 Post-doctoral Scholar (PS) for its interdisciplinary Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology (IEMA). During a 10 month tenure, the PS teaches one graduate seminar (preferably on the topic of the symposium), organizes a symposium, and edits a subsequent volume reflecting IEMA’s focus on post-Pleistocene European and Mediterranean anthropological and classical archaeology. Symposium focus is open, but should stress contemporary theory, topics of broad current interest, and be inclusive of the Institute’s broader geographic/temporal foci. The PS receives stipend, benefits, plus individual research funds. US and international archaeologists with Ph.D. by August, 2010 in Anthropology, Classics, Archaeology or related disciplines are encouraged to apply; inquiries before submission are encouraged.
