UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO SUNY – BUFFALO, NY

The University at Buffalo Department of Classics (http:www.classics.buffalo.edu/) has received authorization to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 2013. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Classics in hand by the start of the appointment and show promise of excellence in both research and teaching. The department seeks candidates whose research area is Greek literature, preferably with interests that include literary theory and/or cultural studies, who might contribute to the department's flagship journal Arethusa. Courses to be taught include undergraduate and graduate ancient Greek language and literature and courses on classical works in translation. Candidates must be prepared to participate in the University's World Civilizations program and/or to develop a lecture course that appeals to a broad spectrum of undergraduates. The course load is 2/2. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the department and/or University and establish a sound, productive research agenda.
