The Department of History of the University of California, San Diego, (http://history.ucsd.edu/), invites applications for either the Ranglas Endowed Chair in Ancient Greek History or the Vassiliadis Endowed Chair in Byzantine History. The one position to be filled will be the second of three Endowed Chairs in Greek History (Ancient, Byzantine, and Modern), which will anchor a strong departmental focus in Mediterranean Studies in the Ancient, Medieval, and Modern world. The appointment will be for a scholar with a distinguished record in research and teaching in either Ancient Greek or Byzantine history and who is attracted to the opportunity to play a leadership role in the creation of a nationally ranked program in the fields of Greek History and Mediterranean Studies. Salary will be commensurate with experience and publications and in accordance with the published salary schedules of the University of California. Income from each Chair's endowment will be available for support of research.
