The Program in Classics at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Classics, effective July 1, 2008. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field at the time of appointment. Prior teaching experience and a Ph.D. is required. Candidates will be expected to teach Greek authors at all levels, introductory through advanced, and some Latin. We are especially interested in candidates who specialize in Greek prose authors. Additional special interests such as Greek science, social history, relations with the Near East, or Women in Antiquity would be an advantage. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach General Education courses on such topics as mythology, literature in translation, Greek civilization and culture, Women in the Ancient World, and etymology. The normal workload is four (quarter system) courses per year. Salary will be contingent upon qualifications and experience.
