The Classics Department at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for a one-year replacement position (lecturer) in Classics for the academic year 1999-2000. Candidates should be able to teach Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels, as well as courses in classical civilization and literature in translation, such as classical mythology or introduction to Greek/Roman culture. Teaching experience desirable, Ph.D. by Sept 1 preferred; rank and salary (normally ca. $39,000 for a lecturer) will be determined by experience and qualifications. The teaching load for a lecturer at UCLA, on the quarter system, entails 2 courses per quarter or a total of six courses over the year.

The Institute of Archaeology at UCLA invites applications for the newly endowed Cotsen Visiting Scholars Program. The purpose of this program is to invite an archaeological scholar, from post-doctoral to senior level, to teach one graduate seminar, conduct his/her own research, and participate in the activities of the Institute during the academic year 1999/2000. A stipend of approximately $20,000 will be available for the successful candidate. The Cotsen Visiting Scholar will be in residence for a period of at least one, and up to three 10-week quarters. Candidates should provide a letter describing their current research activities, their proposed research/writing activities at the Institute, and the proposed seminar that they will teach.
