Candidates should demonstrate a thorough grounding in Latin language and literature, and be prepared to teach Latin at all levels. Preparation for teaching a lower division civilization course would be desirable. Candidates should note that the appointment will be in the Literature Department; the position also includes membership in the campus' interdisciplinary Classics Program, and in the Tri-Campus joint graduate classics program involving faculty from UC Irvine and UC Riverside. The Literature Department is committed to the comparative study of world literatures from antiquity to the present; especially welcome are applicants with comparative and theoretical training, and those whose interests intersect with those of others in the department, including the history of slavery, migration and diaspora, multilingualism, ethnicities of the Roman world, urban studies and geography, and the critical study of religion. The Department of History of the University of California, San Diego (http://historyweb.ucsd.edu ) invites nominations and applications for the Ranglas Endowed Chair in Ancient Greek History. The appointment will be for a senior scholar with a distinguished record in research and teaching on Ancient Greek History. Salary will be commensurate with experience and publications and in accordance with the published salary schedules of the University of California.
