Department of Classics. Area of Instruction: Lower Level Greek and Latin; various lower- and upper-division Undergraduate Lecture Courses.

The Department of Classics has requested funding to hire two lecturers (full or part-time) for the academic year 2002-03. Duties may include teaching Beginning Greek, Beginning Latin, and various large lecture courses such as Greek Mythology, Ancient Epic, Greek Tragedy, and Latin Literature in Translation. Preference will be given to applicants who hold the Ph.D. and have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching both language and lecture courses. Positions will remain open until filled, but applicants are advised to complete their applications by June 7, 2002. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and any appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

The Department of Classics, University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure-track position in ancient comedy. Special consideration will be given to those with proven research interests in Roman Comedy or Greek New Comedy. In addition, applicants interested in contributing to the graduate program in Dramatic Arts would be welcome. Evidence of excellence in both teaching and research is essential; an ability and willingness to teach large humanities courses in mythology, classical literature and civilizations as well as graduate courses and seminars are expected. The Department has an active graduate program and awards both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.
