The Department of Classics, University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a new tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Greek and/or Roman Archaeology. Evidence of excellence in research is essential; expertise in Roman and/or Greek material culture is welcome; candidates with ongoing field projects are especially encouraged to apply. The Classics Department has an active graduate program and awards both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Classics, with an optional Emphasis in Ancient History. The Department is involved in a broad range of interdisciplinary programs, and is developing new initiatives in Hellenic Studies (supported by the Argyropoulos Endowment) and academic study overseas. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at least one classical language at all levels, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in archaeology, and should be willing to contribute to the department's large humanities courses in mythology and classical civilization. The Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment.
