The Department of Classics, University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a new tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Greek Poetry effective 2005-06. Special consideration will be given to those with proven research interests in Greek Lyric; more important than sub-field, however, is a candidate's present or potential scholarly distinction. Evidence of excellence in both teaching and research is essential; an ability and willingness to teach large humanities courses in mythology, classical literature and civilization as well as graduate courses and seminars are expected. The Department has an active graduate program and awards both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Classics, with an optional Emphasis in Literature and Theory. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
