Assistant or Associate Professor – Ancient Israel and the Near East.

The History Department of the University of California, Santa Cruz invites applicants in history and archaeology for one full-time, tenure-track / tenured position in Ancient Israel and the Near East. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate courses in the history of ancient Israel and early Judaism and of cultures relating to it, such as Egypt and the ancient Near East. The successful candidate also will be expected to take a leading role in the development and management of an interdisciplinary Jewish Studies program, and to be a participating member of an interdisciplinary Classical Studies program. This position carries a five-course-equivalency workload, which normally means teaching four courses over three quarters and carrying out other academic and service responsibilities. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

RANK: Assistant Professor I - III (tenure-track) or Associate Professor I - III (tenured)

SALARY: Assistant Professor $47,200 - $52,700; Associate Professor $58,500 - $64,800

Candidates for the non-tenured level must have a Ph.D. in history or related discipline, prefer Ph.D. by June 30, 2007, must be conferred by June 30, 2008. Must have evidence of research activity and teaching excellence, or potential for excellence in university teaching. Candidates for the tenured level must have Ph.D. in history or related discipline. Must have a strong record of ongoing research and publications and an excellent teaching record. Position Available: July 1, 2007
