POSITION ONE: Vacancy number GE12302 SALARY £36,862 - £46,696 pa
The Faculty of Classics is seeking to appoint to a University Lectureship in Classics (Greek Prehistory) from 01 September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. This post is open to those with a primary research interest in Classical Archaeology. Preference will be given to applicants specialising in the Bronze Age and/or Iron Age of the Aegean and adjacent areas. The successful applicant will benefit from the world-class facilities offered by the University and the generous support of research and teaching provided by the Faculty. The Faculty currently teaches approx. 250 undergraduates reading Classics (all of whom study both Greek and Latin language to degree level) and almost 100 graduate students (reading for Masters and doctoral degrees). It is one of the leading international centres in Classics, with some 40 teachers in Faculty and College posts. The successful candidate will be expected to take a full share of teaching and examining across the range of Classical Archaeology at all levels from beginners to graduates, to carry out research and to assist in administration as appropriate.
Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Good first degree and a doctorate in a relevant subject area (or clear evidence that completion of such a doctorate is imminent);
  • Evidence of ability to engage in internationally high-level research in the Prehistory of the Aegean and adjacent areas (in the Bronze Age and/or Iron Age), with publications and participation in scholarly activity commensurate with stage of career;
  • Evidence of an active interest in archaeological fieldwork or finds research, with the ability to develop projects that will attract external research grants;
  • Evidence of ability to teach Classical Archaeology effectively, and at all relevant levels;
  • Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the Faculty as a whole;
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
It is expected that a Fellowship of Sidney Sussex College will be offered to the postholder.

This post is open to those with a primary research interest in ancient philosophy. The Faculty currently teaches approx. 250 undergraduates reading Classics (all of whom study both Greek and Latin language to degree level) and almost 100 graduate students (reading for Masters and doctoral degrees). Salary for this role will be in the range £27,428 to £35,788.
The Faculty of Classics is seeking to appoint a Temporary Teaching Associate in Classics from 01 September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. This post is open to those, at any stage in their career, with a primary research interest in Classical Latin Literature. The successful applicant will benefit from the world-class facilities offered by the University and the generous support of research and teaching provided by the Faculty. The Faculty currently teaches approx. 250 undergraduates reading Classics (all of whom study both Greek and Latin language to degree level) and almost 100 graduate students (reading for Masters and doctoral degrees). It is one of the leading international centres in Classics, with some 40 teachers in Faculty and College posts. The successful candidate will be expected to take a full share of teaching and examining across the range of Latin Literature at all levels from beginners to graduates, and to assist in administration as appropriate.
Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
· The postholder should have recently submitted or be about to submit a PhD dissertation.
· The postholder should have expertise in Latin literature, and interdisciplinary approaches to its study, and be able to deliver high quality lectures.
· The ability to work as part of a team of teachers and administer courses effectively is essential.
· The ability to teach the Latin language
