POSITION ONE:
Lectureship in the Faculty of Classics (Greek and/or Latin literature)

Salary: £37,012 - £46,846
The Faculty of Classics is seeking to appoint to a University Lectureship in Classics (Greek and/or Latin literature) from 01 September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. This post is open to those with a primary research interest in any area of Classical Greek and/or Latin literature. The successful applicant will benefit from the world-class facilities offered by the University and the generous support of research and teaching provided by the Faculty. The Faculty currently teaches approx. 250 undergraduates reading Classics (all of whom study both Greek and Latin language to degree level) and almost 100 graduate students (reading for Masters and doctoral degrees). It is one of the leading international centres in Classics, with some 40 teachers in Faculty and College posts. The successful candidate will be expected to take a full share of teaching across the range of Classical Greek and/or Latin literature and language, at all levels from beginners to doctoral research.
Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Good first degree and a doctorate in a relevant subject area (or clear evidence that completion of such a doctorate is imminent);
  • Evidence of ability to engage in internationally high-level research in Greek and/or Latin literature, with publications and participation in scholarly activity commensurate with stage of career;
  • Evidence of ability to teach Greek and/or Latin literature and both Greek and Latin language;
  • Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the Faculty as a whole;
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Lectureship in the Faculty of Classics (Classical Archaeology)

Salary: £37,012 - £46,846 pa
The Faculty of Classics is seeking to appoint to a University Lectureship in Classics (Classical Archaeology) from 01 September 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is open to those with a primary research interest in Classical Archaeology and preference will be given to applicants specialising in the archaeology of the central and/or eastern Mediterranean in the period 700 BCE–100 BCE.
The successful applicant will benefit from the world-class facilities offered by the University and the generous support of research and teaching provided by the Faculty. The Faculty currently teaches approx. 250 undergraduates reading Classics (all of whom study both Greek and Latin language to degree level) and almost 100 graduate students (reading for Masters and doctoral degrees). It is one of the leading international centres in Classics, with some 40 teachers in Faculty and College posts. The successful candidate will be expected to take a full share of teaching and examining across the range of Classical Archaeology at all levels from beginners to graduates, to carry out research and to assist in administration as appropriate.
Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Good first degree and a doctorate in a relevant subject area (or clear evidence that completion of such a doctorate is imminent);
  • Evidence of ability to engage in internationally high-level research in Classical Archaeology, with publications and participation in scholarly activity commensurate with stage of career;
  • Evidence of an active interest in archaeological fieldwork or finds research, with the ability to develop projects that will attract external research grants;
  • Evidence of ability to teach Classical Archaeology (including both field archaeology and the history of classical art) effectively, and at all relevant levels.
  • Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the Faculty as a whole;
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
