Ancient History. The History Department at the University of Chicago invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professorship in ancient history, beginning September 2006. Preference will be given to applicants with research interests in the social and economic history of the Roman world. The teaching load totals 4 ten-week courses over 3 quarters and includes Greek and Roman history courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The Ph.D. degree must be in hand by September 1, 2006.

The Classics Department at the University of Chicago invites applications for a position in Latin Literature at the level of either tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor, depending on qualifications. The field of specialization is open. The teaching load consists of four 10-week courses per year and regularly includes graduate seminars in Latin literature, introductory and intermediate courses in Greek and Latin, and undergraduate courses in the College core, classical civilization, and literature in translation. The Ph.D. degree must be in hand by July 1, 2006, when the appointment begins.
