The Department of Classics in the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track (assistant professor) appointment in Latin language and literature. The person recommended for appointment will be expected to have the PhD in hand as of July 1999 and to present evidence of successful teaching and scholarly promise. Candidates are sought who are expert in Latin literature (either poetry or prose) of the Republic and early Empire, but who can also design and teach undergraduate courses in translation on aspects of Roman culture. Candidates are asked to provide a letter of application, an up-to-date c.v., at least three letters of reference, and a substantial sample of their written work. The deadline for applications is 1 November 1998.
