The Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a one-year position as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics, to begin on September 1, 2010 (up to three positions will be filled). We seek generalists. Teaching duties may include a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in Greek and Latin as well as courses in classical civilization, mythology, or ancient history. Other duties may include advising and counseling students, and supervising graduate instructors. A Ph.D. in Classics or a related field by the time of the appointment is expected, though we will also consider advanced ABD candidates.

The department offers the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees and has 13 full-time faculty lines. The graduate program is one of the largest in the country, with c. 45 students in residence. The Department is housed as a single unit with offices, classrooms, lecture halls, and library occupying adjoining floors. The Burnam Classics Library contains one of the largest and best Classics, Byzantine, and Modern Greek collections in the world. The teaching load (on the quarter system) consists of five 10-week graduate and undergraduate courses per year.
