Rothman Chair in the Humanities - Director, Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere. The University of Florida invites nominations and applications for the first director of the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere. The initial period of service will be five years; during that period, the individual will concurrently hold the Rothman Chair of Humanities. The mission of the newly-established Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere is (1) to provide a site for critical and collaborative discussions of the humanities, across and beyond specializations, (2) to explore and elaborate the implications of the humanistic disciplines in and for the public sphere, and (3) to provide a location in which community groups and scholars can creatively interact.

The Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere has been active in sponsoring faculty and graduate student research groups and conferences, interdisciplinary seminars for faculty and graduate students, and visiting lectureships of scholars and writers, as well as diverse interactions of the community and the university in the public sphere. Responsibilities: The Director will direct and expand a newly established multi-disciplinary center seeking national recognition; provide intellectual energy and administrative leadership in the Center's research programs; engage in fundraising and other efforts to actively work toward building the Center's endowment; shape the Center's future endeavors and success; oversee outreach programs that link to the community at large.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess an established record of teaching and scholarship activities; have a vision for the Center; demonstrate administrative interest and enthusiasm; be experienced in grantsmanship or other forms of fundraising.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is the largest college on campus, with more than 800 faculty members and more than 12,000 undergraduate students pursuing a variety of disciplines through its 40 majors and 43 minors. Additionally, nearly 2,000 graduate students are enrolled in the college. CLAS faculty rank among the best in the nation and have received a variety of national and international awards.
