The University of Houston, Houston TX, invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor of Classics. We are seeking a Hellenist/generalist with the ability to teach Greek language at all levels, as well as courses in translation on ancient drama, Greek and comparative mythology, and ancient religion(s). Interests in performance, rhetoric, anthropology, literary theory, translation studies, slavery, women's history, and hi-tech teaching a plus. Preference will be given to those with the ability to help us to devise interdisciplinary courses to be cross-listed with departments such as English, Women's Studies, Religious Studies, Anthropology, or History. A coherent research program is a must, but the area of published specialization is very open. Ph.D. in Classics or Comparative Literature required.
