The Department of Classics at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications and nominations for an appointment beginning Fall 2000. Rank and tenure status are open, depending upon qualifications and experience. Candidates must have completed at least two years of teaching since the Ph.D., with experience and success in designing and teaching large lecture courses in myth or central topics in Greek or Roman civilization. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to research and publication. Specialty in any of the following areas is especially welcome: ancient religion, women in antiquity, or Latin literature. Persons with experience using computer and web-based instructional tools are encouraged to apply. The teaching load at UIC is two courses per semester, one of which will be a large lecture course. Other courses will include classics in translation and courses in Ancient Greek and / or Latin, elementary to advanced levels.
