History of the Ancient World: The history department of the University of Illinois at Springfield invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the area of history of the ancient world beginning in August 2008. Candidates must be able to teach the history of ancient Greece and Rome as their primary focus. Additional specialization in medieval, environmental, gender, comparative, cross-cultural, or inter-regional history is especially welcome. Successful candidates will teach three courses each term. Responsibilities will include offering lower- and upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of focus and departmental core courses in historical methods. Candidates should also be willing to teach online as well as on-campus and to teach in the university's new general education curriculum, including world history. A Ph.D. in history or related field with a historical emphasis at the time of appointment and evidence of scholarly potential is required. Teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred.
