Applications and nominations are invited for the full-time position of Professor and Executive Officer of the Department of the Classics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Executive Officer administers a department with twelve faculty and established undergraduate and graduate programs. http://webspace.ncsa.uiuc.edu/classics

Candidates should have qualifications appropriate to appointment with tenure, including national and international reputation for outstanding scholarly productivity in research, and demonstrated excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching. Ph.D. required. Candidates also should demonstrate a high level of leadership and administrative abilities.

Wee seek a candidate with a broad and inclusive vision of the Classics and the classical tradition and their connections to other cultures. The successful candidate will be able to work creatively with other units to create joint opportunities for study and learning.

Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is expected to begin August 16, 2008. Full consideration will be given to applications and nominations received by October 15, 2007.
