Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics. The Department of the Classics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, invites applications for a one-year full-time position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. The successful candidate must be able to teach Latin and Greek languages at all levels as well as courses in classical civilization, including Classical Mythology and Roman Civilization. Course load will be 3 courses per semester. Salary $42,000. Candidates should have earned their Ph.D. by June 2005, and show evidence of excellence in teaching.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Departments of Philosophy and of the Classics. Rank: Assistant Professor tenure-track. Split appointment, 50% in Philosophy and 50% in Classics. Area of Specialization: ancient (esp. Greek) philosophy. An emphasis in ethics and related areas (such as political and social philosophy) is preferred; but candidates in all areas will be considered. Areas of Competence: open. Proposed starting date is August 16, 2005. Qualifications: Ph.D. by starting date, appropriate background in area of specialization and evidence of ability to contribute to the departments and disciplines in area of specialization through both teaching and research. Semester system. Duties: teaching, research and service evenly distributed in both departments. Normally two courses per semester, one introductory or intermediate and one advanced, including regular teaching of Greek and/or Latin texts (preferably both at all levels) in the Department of the Classics; independent study and thesis supervision; committee assignments.
