UNIVERSITY OF IOWA -- IOWA CITY, IA (Two Positions)
The Department of Classics at The University of Iowa invites applications for two visiting appointments at the assistant professor level, to begin in August 2006. One is a two-year position with an initial appointment for 2006-07 and renewable for one academic year, ending in May 2008, conditional on a positive performance review. The other is a one-year appointment for 2006-07. Both are non-tenure track positions. Candidates may send one application and specify the position(s) for which they are applying. Full time teaching load is five courses per academic year. Courses to be taught include large English language classes (e.g., Mythology, Word Power, Greek Civilization, Roman Civilization) each semester. Ph.D. required by time of appointment. Salary is dependent on candidate's experience and credentials.

Screening of applications begins March 15, 2006. Applications should include cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcript, and at least three current letters of recommendation. Applicants are also encouraged to submit evidence of teaching ability and expertise,as well as scholarly publications. All applications will be acknowledged, and applicants will be informed when the position has been filled. We plan to interview some candidates at the CAMWS Conference in Gainesville in April. Some candidates, who are unable to travel to CAMWS, may be interviewed by phone.
