The Department of Art History and Archaeology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Roman Art and Archaeology to begin in late August 2006. The successful candidate will teach upper-level courses in Roman art and archaeology from the Roman Republic through the Late Antique, lower-division survey courses in the History of Art from Paleolithic through Gothic, and focused graduate courses in aspects of Roman art. She/he will also direct theses and dissertations.

The University of Maryland, located just outside Washington, DC, is a Research 1 institution. The Department seeks a candidate with high potential for significant publications as well as with demonstrated excellence in teaching. We expect that the PhD will have been awarded by August 2006.
