UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND BALTIMORE COUNTY – BALTIMORE, MD

The Ancient Studies Department at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a one-year, Visiting Lecturer beginning August 23, 2011 and ending May 22, 2012. Ancient Studies is an undergraduate program, with courses in Greek and Roman language, culture, archaeology, and ancient history.

Applicants must have an M.A. or Ph.D. in Classics or Classical Civilizations and preference will be given to those with a Ph.D. Prior teaching experience is desirable. The successful candidate will be able to teach Latin, Greek, and English Word Roots, and be an effective and energetic teacher who is committed to undergraduate education. Candidates will be expected to teach eight courses across the academic year, selected from the following: Latin and Greek, English Word Roots, Classical Mythology, and Greek Civilization. Candidates should be prepared to teach four days a week and hold at least three office hours per week.
