The Department of Classics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of beginning Assistant Professor effective September 1, 2007. A Ph.D. in Classics in hand at the time of application is required. We seek a classicist with an area of specialization in Greek literature. Preference will be given to candidates working in the areas of Homeric epic, Greek historiography, or Greek drama. The successful candidate is expected to have a demonstrated success teaching courses in classical literature in translation as well as courses in ancient Greek and Latin at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. The department is interested in enhancing its interdisciplinary and multicultural approaches to Classics and will look favorably upon candidates with interests in diversity in the ancient world. The department has a successful MAT program and the candidate is expected to actively participate in the department's mentoring program for its MAT students.
