Department Overview:

The Department of History at University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks to fill a nontenure-track Lecturer position in Ancient/Classical History. Applications are welcome in all areas of History prior to 500 C.E., particularly those that place an emphasis upon cultural exchange, world history, and the intersection of ancient societies. Applicants will be expected to teach survey courses in Western Civilization and Ancient Greece/Rome, as well as upper-level courses in their area of specialization. Applicants will be expected to develop outreach programs with the Lowell Hellenic-American community and to support the emerging UML Center for Hellenic Partnerships.

Position Title & Description:

Lecturer: Ancient/Classical History

The Lecturer is a newly established position at UMass Lowell. Responsibilities include teaching a 3-3 load and providing service to the department and its students (e.g., academic advising, committee work). Salary is comparable with that of an Assistant Professor. If performance is satisfactory, a Lecturer is eligible for promotion to Senior Lecturer after 6 years.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in relevant field (e.g., History, Classics) at time of appointment.

• Experience and demonstrated excellence teaching at the undergraduate level.
