The appointee will teach Ancient history, supervise honours and postgraduate students and contribute to the Arts Faculty’s program in Ancient and Medieval Studies. The Department currently teaches a range of undergraduate Ancient history subjects and the appointee will be expected to teach in Greek and Roman History, as well as in a number of other areas. The department is seeking a candidate with strong research capacity in one or more aspects of Ancient history. While teaching knowledge of Ancient Greece and Rome is required, it welcomes candidates who are also able to teach in such areas as Mesopotamia and Egypt, and are interested in collaborating in the development of broader World History subjects.

The appointee will have completed a Ph.D., have a specialist knowledge of Ancient history, a developing research and publication profile in Ancient history, as well as lecturing experience in Ancient history at university level. The appointee should have relevant publications, demonstrated excellence in teaching, a capacity to attract external funding, experience supervising postgraduate research, an informed interest in contemporary approaches to historical theory and method, and an ability to contribute to the Faculty's broader programs in Ancient and Medieval Studies. Expertise in one or more languages other than English appropriate to the applicant's area(s) of specialisation is also required.

POSITION TWO: Department of History - Senior Lecturer (Level C) or Lecturer (Level B). Full-time (continuing) position. Position No. G0004453. See http://www.hr.unimelb.edu.au/jobs/ for position description and application details.

This position in Modern Jewish history is based in the Department of History. The incumbent will contribute to the Department’s teaching and research programs and also to the Faculty's Jewish Studies program. Responsibilities will include supervising postgraduate research and the preparation, coordination and teaching of subjectsin modern Jewish history, the history of the Holocaust and Genocide, and other areas. The appointment will be commensurate with experience, research and publications.

The appointee will have completed the Ph.D. and have specialist knowledge in Modern Jewish history. The appointee should demonstrate an ability to contribute to the development of team-taught comparative courses. The incumbent should have substantial publications, demonstrated excellence in teaching, a capacity to attract external funding, experience supervising postgraduate research, an informed interest in contemporary approaches to historical theory and method, and a demonstrated ability to contribute to the Faculty's Jewish Studies program and assist in University-wide Jewish Studies planning.Expertise in one or more languages other than English appropriate to the applicant's area(s) of specialisation is also required.
