The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota invites applications for the Sundet Family Chair in New Testament and Christian Studies. This is a full-time tenured faculty position at the rank of associate professor beginning fall semester 2012.
Applicants must hold the degree of Ph.D. or equivalent and possess a distinguished record of academic achievement (scholarly research, teaching, service) that satisfies the criteria for holding an appointment with indefinite tenure in the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota.
Essential Qualifications:
1) Ph.D. or equivalent degree in relevant field (e.g., Religious Studies, History, Classics) with a specialty in New Testament or early Christian studies.
2) Record of significant publication and teaching experience sufficient for appointment with indefinite tenure at the University of Minnesota.
3) Ability to provide strong academic leadership to the department and related programs, especially Religious Studies.
4) Ability and interest in offering courses and seminars on the New Testament as well as other topics of importance to broader constituencies in Classical and Near Eastern Studies, Religious Studies, and the College of Liberal Arts.
5) Appropriate skills in Greek and other relevant research languages.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Experience working in a large or public university setting, teaching both graduate and undergraduate students.
2) Evidence of commitment to interdisciplinary topics and approaches beyond one narrow specialty so as to enhance the offerings of our particular graduate and undergraduate majors.
3) Success in fundraising and/or other outreach and community-building activities.
