Sundet Family Chair in New Testament and Christian Studies The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota seeks nominations and applications of scholars of international stature for the newly endowed Sundet Family Chair in New Testament and Christian Studies. Area of specialization within the fields of New Testament and early Christianity is open, though an ability to contribute to a graduate and undergraduate curriculum in the cultures of Mediterranean antiquity is required. The Sundet Chair is a full-time nine-month tenured position to begin no earlier than fall semester 1999. The rank will be professor or associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience and consistent with collegiate and university policies. Strong preference is to hire at the rank of professor. Ph.D., Th.D., or foreign equivalent required.

Responsibilities in the position will include active pursuit of a program of research and publication, graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising, and service to the department and college. The search will remain open until filled; the search committee will begin reviewing applications and nominations on October 15, 1998. Members of the search committee will be available for informational discussions at the AAR/SBL Annual Meeting in Orlando as well as the APA Meeting in Washington. The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time 9-month position, beginning September 1999, at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor. The position is subject to funding. We seek candidates with demonstrated promise of excellence in teaching and research (minimum: Ph.D. in hand by 8/16/99), with a solid background in classical Greek and Latin, and with primary expertise in Latin literature. The candidate's research program should center on literature of the Republic or Early Empire. Specialties in prose and poetry are both welcome, but ability to teach widely in Latin literature and to contribute to a broad curriculum in ancient Mediterranean studies is essential.
