1) Sundet Family Chair in New Testament and Christian Studies. The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies, in the College of Liberal Arts, at the University of Minnesota seeks nominations and applications of scholars of international stature for the Sundet Family Chair in New Testament and Christian Studies. Area of specialization within the fields of New Testament and early Christianity is open, though an ability to contribute to a graduate and undergraduate curriculum in the religions of Mediterranean antiquity is expected. The Sundet Chair is a full-time nine-month tenured position to begin no earlier than fall semester 2002. The rank will be professor or associate professor, depending on qualifications and experience and consistent with collegiate and university policies. Ph.D., Th.D. or foreign equivalent required.

Responsibilities in the position will include active pursuit of a program of research and publication, graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising, and service to the department and college. The search will remain open until filled; the search committee will begin reviewing applications and nominations no later than October 15, 2001. Members of the search committee will be available for informational discussions at the AAR/SBL Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado in November, 2001. All inquiries will be treated in confidence.

2) Assistant Professor in Classical Prose Literature. The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in classical prose literature. The candidate should have broad training in Greek and Roman literature and a research specialty in a prose author or genre, preferably Latin. Regardless of the candidate's field of specialization the ability to teach the literature of the Roman Republic and Principate at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is essential. Evidence of interest and success in teaching large lecture courses to undergraduates will strengthen an application. Candidates must have completed all requirements for the PhD in Classics or a related field by the start of the appointment. The position will be open until filled, but the committee will begin reading files on Nov. 20, 2001.
