UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI – COLUMBIA, MO

The Department of Art History and Archaeology announces a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Professor depending on qualifications, to begin fall 2013. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in the archaeology, art, and material culture of prehistoric Europe, the Rhine frontier, and the medieval West, and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of research specialty. The PhD is required for appointment at these ranks. Candidates will be evaluated on teaching experience and research record.

The department offers the BA, MA, and PhD degrees in art history and archaeology. The new position will build on the Department’s existing strengths in the art and archaeology of the ancient and medieval Mediterranean and the High Middle Ages in the West. An active program of archaeological research (including fieldwork), participation in student advising, and service on graduate committees is expected.

The department currently includes nine full-time faculty. There are normally about 80 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. Graduate degrees in art history and archaeology can be combined with interdisciplinary minors in Ancient Studies, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Museum Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. The University of Missouri is the main campus of the state university system and offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs. Campus resources include the Museum of Art and Archaeology, with a collection of 16,000 objects heavily used in teaching, excellent library resources for European archaeology, and a growing Visual Resources Center.
