The University of Missouri-Columbia seeks to fill a tenure-track assistant professorship in Classical Studies. Candidates should have a specialty in Latin poetry of the Augustan Age, with research interests that include gender studies and/or the oral traditional dimensions of the literature and the interaction of audience with literature. The ability to teach interdisciplinary courses (e.g., with the departments of History or Art History and Archaeology) is also desirable. In addition to courses in Latin for majors and graduate students, the candidate will be expected to teach a wide range of generalist offerings on classical literature in English translation as half of the annual four-course teaching load. Qualifications for this appointment include a PhD completed by May 1, 1999, excellent teaching credentials, and a demonstrated potential for first-rate scholarly research. The salary will be competitive, with a full benefits package.
