Chair in Ancient History (Reference No: B005).To support our ambition of achieving a grade 5 in the next RAE, a candidate with an outstanding research record in Ancient History is sought upon the retirement of Professor J F Lazenby. The successful candidate will have an international reputation in research in a period or field of Ancient History; other things being equal, preference will be given to research in Greek History, broadly defined. The successful applicant will also be required to contribute to the teaching of Archaic and Classical Greece in the Department's programmes. Salary will be at an appropriate point in the Professorial salary scale. Lectureship in Classics (Reference No: B006) To support the development of the department's research profile the successful candidate will have an outstanding research record within the field of Greek and Latin language, literature, or culture, and will have a clear research strategy for the future. He or she will be able to teach both Greek and Latin language and literature to students with traditional qualifications, as well as to students of Classical Studies. Experience of teaching beginners in either language would be an advantage. The ability to attract and supervise postgraduate students at MA/MLitt and PhD level is also expected. Salary will be at an appropriate point on the Lecturer Grade A (£16,655 - £21,815) or Lecturer Grade B (£22,726 - £29,048) salary scales.
