The appointment will be either for one year in the case of a younger scholar or one semester in the case of a senior scholar (though with some possibility of a full-year appointment if funding becomes available), The successful applicant will instruct undergraduate students in the Department of Classics and graduate students in the Medieval Institute. The Department of Classics at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a tenure-track position in Greek Literature and Culture (broadly understood). The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor but an appointment as Associate Professor is possible for a suitably qualified applicant. The successful candidate will be expected to teach language and literature courses in Greek (and Latin) at all levels of instruction; to offer innovative undergraduate courses in translation in Greek literature and culture; and to play a significant role in the intellectual life of a rapidly developing department. A commitment to research and publication is essential. Preference may be given to applicants who have research interests in Homer or Greek Tragedy but the precise area of specialization is open. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
