1) Greek Literature and Culture. The Department of Classics at the University of Otago, New Zealand invites applications for the confirmation-path position of Lecturer in Greek Literature and Culture. Candidates should normally have a completed PhD degree and an established research programme in Greek Literature and Culture. They should be able not only to conduct research in Greek Literature and Culture but also to encourage and supervise research in both areas. The successful candidate will be expected to have the ability to teach and assume administrative responsibility for Greek Literature and Culture at all undergraduate levels and be available to supervise 400-level research essays, MAs and PhDs. An ability and willingness to teach courses in areas such as civilization, mythology and cinema would be an advantage. Expertise in and the willingness to teach ancient Greek and Latin to a high level is required.

The 2003 salary range for a Lecturer is NZ$50,132 to NZ$61,830 per annum. Appointment will be made at an appropriate step in this range depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates should normally have a completed PhD degree and an established research programme in Greek and/or Roman History. They should be able not only to conduct research in Greek and/or Roman History but also to encourage and supervise research in both areas. The successful candidate will be expected to have the ability to teach and assume administrative responsibility for Greek and Roman History (including social history) at all undergraduate levels and be available to supervise 400-level research essays, MAs and PhDs. Expertise in and the willingness to teach Latin and/or ancient Greek to a high level would be a distinct advantage.

The 2003 salary range for a Lecturer is NZ$50,132 to NZ$61,830 per annum and for a Senior Lecturer is $NZ65,172 to $NZ76,312 per annum.
