UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD -OXFORD, UNITED KINGDOM (Two Positions)

POSITION ONE: Faculty of Classics, in association with Wolfson College, Lecturership in Roman Archaeology.

Applications are invited for a Lecturership in Roman Archaeology with effect from 1 January 2005. The lecturer will belong to the Faculty of Classics but will also be a member of the School of Archaeology. The lecturer will be elected to a Fellowship at Wolfson College.

Salary: The combined university and college salary will be according to age on a scale up to £44,376 per annum.

Consideration will be given to candidates with teaching experience and a research interest in any aspect of Roman Archaeology. Preference may be given to a specialist in the architecture, art and visual culture of Rome and its empire from ca 300 BC to AD 400. A proven high standard of research ability and the ability to provide graduate supervision are necessary conditions for this appointment.

POSITION TWO: Classics Faculty -Research Assistant to the Professor of the Archaeology of the Roman Empire. Academic-Related Research Staff Grade IA: Salary £18,893 -£28,279 p.a.

Applications are invited for the above post, to start on 1 October 2004, for three years in the first instance. The postholder will assist the Professor (A.I. Wilson) with his research; undertake some undergraduate teaching, help organize field seasons; edit excavation reports; and provide administrative support.

Candidates must be graduate, ideally engaged in doctoral research on Roman archaeology, or with a doctorate in this subject, and should have experience of excavation fieldwork and of teaching Roman archaeology. The ability to read Italian and French is essential. Candidates must be familiar with a range of computer applications.
