UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA – PHILADELPHIA, PA
DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICAL STUDIES

The Department of Classical Studies has been authorized to conduct an open-rank search for a scholar in the field of Ancient History. The appointment is to begin in Fall 2008. Senior candidates will be expected to have a distinguished record of research and teaching; junior candidates will be expected to demonstrate the potential to achieve such distinction. In addition to teaching courses on historical subjects (including technical fields, such as epigraphy, numismatics, or papyrology), the successful candidate must also be able to teach courses in Latin and Greek at all levels. We are particularly interested in candidates who would strengthen connections with programs in such areas as Archaeology, Religious Studies, Egyptology and the Ancient Near East. Candidates are to complete a short on-line profile at https://fusion.sas.upenn.edu/faculty/pos/class/hist. Please send dossiers (cover letter and CV) to Professor Ralph M. Rosen, Acting Chair, Department of Classical Studies, University of Pennsylvania, 202 Logan Hall, Philadelphia, PA 19104-6304. (email: rrosen@sas.upenn.edu). Candidates for an assistant professor position should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the same address. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2007 and will continue until the position is filled. The Department will be interviewing candidates at the APA/AIA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
