Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Humanities 2005-2006, "Word and Image"

Five (5) Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships are available for the 2005-2006 academic year from the Penn Humanities Forum of the University of Pennsylvania for untenured junior scholars who are no more than eight years out of their doctorates.

The programs of the Penn Humanities Forum are conceived through yearly topics that invite broad interdisciplinary collaboration. The Forum has set WORD & IMAGE as the topic for the 2005-2006 academic year. Research proposals on this topic are invited from a variety of theoretical perspectives in all areas of humanistic study except educational curriculum-building and the performing arts.

Fellows teach one freshman seminar each of two terms. $42,000 stipend, plus health insurance. The fellowship is open to all scholars, national and international, who meet application criteria.

The Department of Classical Studies has been authorized to conduct an open-rank search for a scholar in the field of Roman History. The appointment is to begin in Fall 2005. Candidates will be expected to have a distinguished record of research, teaching, and a commitment to students. In addition to teaching courses on historical authors and topics (including technical fields, such as epigraphy or numismatics), the successful candidate must also be able to teach courses in Latin and Greek at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a newly authorized, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in the 2004-2005 academic year. We are seeking candidates whose area of specialization lies in Latin Literature and Roman Culture. Candidates must be able to teach Latin and Greek at all levels, and to assume an active and enthusiastic role in our other Classical Studies programs. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching, who can contribute to both our undergraduate and graduate programs.
