Assistant Professor of Classics. The department of classics invites applications for a full-time, tenure-line Assistant Professor position; begins Fall Term 2004. Teach Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels, as well as offer courses in ancient literature and culture in translation. The candidate will also be expected to teach in the University's Honors program and to contribute to other interdisciplinary programs such as Women's Studies or Humanities. Standard teaching assignment is three courses per semester. Other duties include continuation of professional development, advising students, and participation in departmental and University governance. Ph.D. (ABD considered) in Classics, and a commitment to undergraduate teaching and liberal arts education. Primary research specialty may be either Greek or Roman literature, but an interest in the Roman world must be clearly demonstrated either by teaching or research. Special interests in comparative literature, gender studies, philosophy, or material culture especially welcome.
