The Department of Religion and Classics of the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Classics, with specialization in Roman archaeology. PhD or scheduled completion by July, 2008 required. The successful candidate will have outstanding potential for scholarly distinction and demonstrated excellence in teaching, and will be expected to make distinguished contributions to the growth and enhancement of classics at the University through publication, teaching, and co-curricular activities. Expected course offerings (taught in English) include classical studies encompassing ancient history, archaeology, and the religion and culture of the ancient Mediterranean world; competence to teach Latin and Greek at all levels is desirable. The candidate will be actively involved with other faculty in the development of an exciting new interdisciplinary program in Engineering, Architecture, and Archaeology. Ability to offer a summer study-abroad course in archaeology in Italy or elsewhere in the Mediterranean region is highly desirable.
