Instructor of Classics

The Department of World Languages at the University of South Florida is seeking candidates for an appointment to a nine-month position of Instructor in Classics, effective August 7, 2013. This is a full-time position with multi-year renewal contingent upon successful reviews.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach a combination of courses on classical culture and literature (Classical Mythology, Greek and Roman Civilization, Greek and Roman Lit in Translation, Medical Terminology) and introductory and intermediate courses in Latin (primarily) and ancient Greek. The expected teaching load is four courses per semester or the equivalent of 12 semester credit hours per semester. He/she must be a creative and inspiring educator with a proven record of teaching, capable of reaching students from a diverse range of backgrounds at a large public institution. Moreover, he/she must demonstrate willingness to participate in curricular and school-related initiatives on campus and help in the expansion of the Program.

Qualifications

Minimum—M.A. in Classics or Classical Reception is required.

Preferred—Preference will be given to candidates who have a PhD or advanced ABD in Classics or Classical Reception.
