CENTRE FOR MEDIEVAL STUDIES - Position in Medieval Latin. Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Medieval Latin at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the Centre for Medieval Studies, University of Toronto, beginning 1 July, 2002. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a clear commitment to language pedagogy, and will work closely within the Centre's Medieval Latin program, teaching and examining graduate students at the Centre at all levels. Candidates must be trained in both Classical and Medieval Latin, and should have specialist graduate training in Medieval Latin as a primary discipline; Medieval Latin must be a clear focus of their research interests. Training in palaeography and codicology is also very desirable, as are teaching and research interests in other areas of medieval studies. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A) The University of Toronto, Division of Humanities, Mississauga Campus, Theatre and Drama Studies Program and the Department of Classics invite applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of Ancient Greek and/or Roman theatre history and drama. Expertise in the use of computers in research and pedagogy and/or cultural performance will be an asset. The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate programs in both Theatre & Drama Studies (a unique conservatory-style collaboration taught jointly at Sheridan College of Applied Arts and Technology and the University of Toronto at Mississauga) and Classical Civilization on the Mississauga Campus, and to the graduate program of the Department of Classics on the St. George Campus. Appointment to commence July 1, 2002, but is subject to budgetary approval. Salary is commensurate with experience. Ph.D. in Classics required. B) POSITION ONE: Classics and Ancient History. The Department of Classics at the University of Toronto is soliciting applications for two tenure-stream positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. One position is in the field of Greek history and the other in Roman history and/or Latin literature. Successful applicants will be expected to contribute to a growing and research-intensive doctoral programme and to a thriving undergraduate programme in Greek, Latin, and Classical Civilization. The department is particularly interested in candidates who combine a thorough training in Classical languages with an interest in other humanities disciplines.

The appointments will begin 1 July 2002; an appropriate doctoral degree must have been earned by that date. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

POSITION TWO: Ancient Philosophy. The University of Toronto solicits applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Ancient Philosophy. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed to the Departments of Classics and Philosophy.

The successful applicant will be nominated for a tier II Canada Research Chair. Accordingly, candidates are expected to be outstanding scholars in the field of ancient philosophy, whose research and teaching will make major contributions to the quality and stature of the field and the two departments. The person appointed will join an active group of teacher-researchers at the University of Toronto and will be affiliated with the Collaborative Programme in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy.

The appointment is to begin July 1, 2002. Salary and rank commensurate with experience.
