The Department of Languages and Literature at the University of Utah invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Classics. The candidate’s strength should be in undergraduate teaching at all levels. Candidates should be able to teach beginning Latin and Greek, upper division courses in both literatures, and general courses in Classical Civilization such as Myth, The Greeks, The Romans, Greek Tragedy and Ancient Religion. Competence in Ancient History or Classical Art and Archeology is desirable. Teaching load is three courses per semester. This is a one-year appointment, renewable contingent upon availability of funding. Deadline for applications is April 14, 2006, or until position is filled. The Department of Languages and Literature at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Classics. The candidate’s scholarly strength should be in Latin and Augustan Poetry. Candidates must be able to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in Latin and Greek at all levels and general courses in Classical Civilization (including a large lecture course in Mythology), Comparative Literature and Intellectual Traditions of the West. Competence in Greek and Roman Religion or Classical Art and Archaeology is desirable. Strong commitment to scholarship and publication as well as to undergraduate teaching is necessary. Teaching load is two courses per semester. The University of Utah offers excellent research opportunities and support. Ph.D. required by time of appointment. Interviewing will take place in Montreal at the APA Convention January 5-8, 2006.
