The Ph.D. is required. Candidates for the position must offer promise of a strong program of scholarly research. Responsibilities include 1) the teaching of Greek, Latin, and Classical Civilization courses, and 2) teaching and assisting in the Great Books program. Specialist in Ancient Western Art and Architecture (e.g. Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Ancient Near East). Tenure Track. Assistant Professor. Definite. Start August 2002. Ph.D. required. Teaching experience preferred. The Art History department at UWM offers the B.A. and M.A. with an optional Certificate in Art Museum Studies at the Masters level. Eight faculty members cover specialties from ancient through contemporary western art as well as Asian, African and Pre-Columbian. There are faculty in archaeology, ancient history, and classical languages in the Anthropology, History, and Foreign Languages and Linguistics departments respectively. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses and graduate seminars in ancient western art and architecture and the introductory Ancient to Medieval survey.
