TITLE: Teacher- Classical Languages (Parent Association Model)

DUTIES: The Teacher will be responsible for course development, class planning and facilitation. Duties will include supporting students and families through use of the curriculum offered by the Great Books Academy, as well as communicating and following up on specific program requirements. In addition to Teacher duties, this position will be responsible for developing and implementing a K-12 liberal arts education model which will include classical languages as a sizeable component of the program. The Teacher will also be responsible for helping to develop the larger Parent Association Model, which may use other curricula in different locations depending upon the desires of a particular parent group.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Many qualified candidates may lack a teaching certificate and are encouraged to apply if interested in pursuing a career in education. Minimum requirements include a four year college degree in Greek, Latin, Liberal Arts, Classical Studies or a related field and the willingness to obtain a Washington State teaching certificate. A valid Washington State teaching Certificate is preferred but not required initially. This position will require knowledge of specialized rules, procedures, practices, or operations acquired through substantial training or experience. Applicants should be familiar with standard office equipment and computer applications. Teachers should have the ability to motivate others, and change their own behavior, to meet specific requirements of organizational objectives. Interpersonal communication skills are required and applicants should have the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The Valley School District follows standard procedures in placing Teachers on the state salary schedule, whether part- or full-time. This position is full-time and qualifies for full benefits.

WORK SETTING: Newly-hired teachers report to work each day at the Valley campus or other such space designated for operating the Valley Parent Association Model. In addition to daily work contact, all teachers connect with each other and their administration through regular staff meetings, retreats, and in-service opportunities. Connections with parents and family events may occasionally occur outside normal work hours.
