The Department of Classics at Northwestern University invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in Classics starting September 1, 2020. The position may be renewed in 2021-22. This is a non-tenure track, full-time, benefits eligible position. We are especially interested in candidates with a strong record in pedagogical innovation and creativity. The successful candidate will teach six classes (two per quarter) at any undergraduate level in the language, literature, history, or culture of ancient Greece, in original texts or in translation. Greek languages courses will be taught according to a pre-existing departmental curriculum designed and overseen by the Director of the Greek Program. Research subfields are open. Experience teaching the ancient Greek language as well as evidence of lecturing skills are required. Demonstrated evidence of teaching and/or training diverse student populations is preferred. A doctoral degree in Classics is required by the time the appointment begins. The Department of Classics at Northwestern is an active community of faculty and students engaging in research and teaching across the spectrum of ancient studies, with special interests in global antiquities and classical reception studies.
