The Department of Classics of Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for an appointment at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2001. The successful candidate will be expected to have the Ph.D. in Classics in hand by appointment date and to show teaching experience and substantial scholarly promise. In the event the committee does not find an appropriate candidate at entry level, candidates with more extensive experience and publication may be considered for appointment at an appropriate rank. Candidates are sought who are prepared to teach courses in Greek and Latin at all levels as well as courses in translation on various aspects of the ancient world, and to advise undergraduate and graduate students. The normal course load in the Humanities at Washington University is two and two, and a high level of scholarly productivity is expected. Of particular interest to the committee will be candidates with research and teaching interests in the following fields: Ancient medicine, Latin poetry.
