WashingtonUniversity in St. Louis invites applications and nominations for The John and Penelope Biggs Distinguished Professorship in Classics, at the rank of Full Professor. The successful candidate will be a leader in the field of Classics, with an outstanding record in scholarship and teaching, both graduate and undergraduate. We seek a scholar with a specialization in Latin literature and/or Roman culture. The Biggs Professor will be expected to assume a leadership role in an expanding department, with a thriving M.A. program and a developing Ph.D. Applications and nominations will be accepted until the position is filled, but those received before November 15, 2010 will be considered together shortly after that date. Qualified Associate Professors who are on the verge of promotion are also encouraged to apply.
